Padraig Harrington has received many offers to design golf courses around the world. He has declined every one of them.
Until now.
He chose The Marlbrook as the venue for his first golf course following several visits to this beautiful, largely untouched, area of South Tipperary. Padraig was deeply impressed by The Marlbrook’s rich natural palette of magnificent specimen trees and gently undulating parkland overlooking the River Suir. He also embraced the challenge of carefully sculpting a mature and established landscape into a world-class golf course, which will play over 7,000 yards.
Padraig’s design philosophy has been to minimise the impact on the landscape by integrating the fabric of the course with its unique setting. Natural contours offer a remarkable variety of holes, 200-year-old oaks act as sentinels over the 1st, 2nd and 16th greens, and a belt of proud beech trees provides a dramatic backdrop to the 9th green.
Padraig was also keen to maximise the course’s spectacular views across the Golden Vale. He has positioned the 15th hole, for example, along a natural ridge-line that provides glorious vistas of Slievenamon to the east and the Galtee Mountains to the west.
Visually outstanding and challenging, golfers of every level will come to view The Marlbrook as one of the most enjoyable, rewarding and ‘must-play’ parkland course in Ireland.
