Maintaining the historic estate and its vital heritage has been central to all aspects of The Marlbrook project.
Architectural firm Murray O’Laoire has applied the highest conservation principles to The Marlbrook. Design works have been carried out in accordance with the Venice Charter, a set of international architectural guidelines that were developed in Italy for the renovation of buildings of historical significance.
For Padraig Harrington, a crucially important aspect of his design has been to conserve the natural beauty of the course’s landscape. The Marlbrook’s resident ecologist, consulting arborist and hydrologist, as well as our landscape architects, have been advising and guiding the construction team to maximise the positive ecological benefits that the land offers.
Interior designers, MacGinty Designs will continue to maintain the integrity of the Main House and keep the interior furnishings in a style true to its history.
Programmes have been developed to regenerate flora and fauna, and build biodiversity, including:
• Planting more than 10,000 new trees, with emphasis on native species
• Fostering the growth of traditional wildlife such as kingfishers and owls
• Cultured management of grassland areas
• Introduction of new wildlife corridors through the estate
• Protecting the River Suir Special Area of Conservation by building wetland systems that will act as natural filtration for all water discharged from the estate
The houses on the estate will incorporate the most modern and professional building methods and reflect the growing demand for energy efficiency and environmental sustainability.
